| Caffe Nero Wins 'Coffee Bar Sandwich Retailer of the Year' Award 2005 |
| 01 June 2005 |
Caffè Nero has won the British Sandwich Association’s top choice at its prestigious Sammies Awards, on 12th May 2005. The coffee chain beat many well known high street brands including Coffee Republic, Costa, and M&S Café Revive, to win the overall Coffee Bar Sandwich Retailer of the Year, a key award sponsored by Food Partners.
The judges looked for the emphasis that the business gave to its sandwich sales, as well as the atmosphere, facilities, cleanliness and product range on offer. Caffè Nero was nominated, because of its great strength in food that is an integral part of its Italian heritage. It uses a simple food philosophy of seeking out the very best, fresh baked breads and flavoursome ingredients, many of which are from Italy, combining them in attractive packing to create delicious sandwiches, wraps and paninis for its loyal customers.
The product range is both wide ranging and innovative with exciting paninis such as Italian Meatballs in tomato sauce, and a spicy chicken wrap which is also served hot. The range is kept fresh by a new sandwich every month, as well as seasonal specials such as the Tricolore panini which benefits from fresh seasonal ripe tomatoes and avocados - ingredients that are now in season.
Commenting on the success Paul Ettinger, Caffè Nero Commercial Director explained: “The award reinforces our belief in the importance of our food offer. We are always trialling new ingredients and combinations to ensure that our customer offer remains ahead of the market place.”
Development Director for Food Partners Liz Earl added: “Food Partners has worked closely with Caffè Nero over the past 8 months to establish a great tasting and healthy sandwich range, using the finest ingredients we can source. We are delighted that our continual development has been recognised with this prestigious award.”
