What is the purpose of ‘Recognising Our Star Baristas’?
It is a way for you to recognise and say thank you to our baristas when you next receive excellent service, (and then for us to make a fuss over them too!) Many of you have said this is something you would like to be able to do.
Can any customer take part?
We would love everyone to be involved in ‘Recognise Our Star Baristas’. Registration will be opened up to customers again in January 2012 and we will advertise in our cafes and on our website to let you know exactly when this will happen.
How does it work?
We will let customers know that registration is open in January 2012 and the first 500 people to register will take part – it will work on a first come first served basis. Once registration is closed and we have everyone’s contact details, we will send you your ‘Nero Star token’ in the post.
It’s then over to you to hand the token to the barista of your choice the next time you receive excellent service. So, carry the token with you. Don’t tell people in Caffè Nero if you have it. The next time you receive excellent service reach out and hand your token to the barista and say ‘I’d like you to have this’, that’s it! Once you have recognised a barista we will reward and congratulate them. We would also love you to log back onto our website and tell us why you recognised that individual too.
What is a barista?
A barista is the person that makes your coffee in a Caffè Nero. They are trained by us to be experts in making coffee the traditional, handcrafted way. A barista wearing a black T-shirt has successfully passed weeks of training to make great coffee; a trainee barista wearing a red T-shirt is exactly that – in training, learning to make perfect coffee. You can give the token to anyone working in a Caffè Nero store – black or red T-shirt – who has just provided you with exceptional service.
Can I recognise a barista without taking part in Nero Stars?
Yes and no! You can of course continue to compliment your barista at any time by telling us about it – we would love that. However, the ‘Recognise Our Star Baristas’ takes it a step further – handing a token to a barista means you have singled them out for being extra special, and that means we will make sure they are also recognised from a company perspective.
How many tokens does a customer receive?
One token per customer, we want to make sure as many customers as possible can take part.
Should I tell anyone in store at Caffè Nero if I have a token?
Please don’t. The token is meant to be a surprise and you should only identify yourself after you have handed over your token when you receive excellent service.
What does a barista need to do in order to get a token?
Provide exceptional service on that day. You will have total freedom to hand out your token to whomever you like – from a trainee barista to the store manager. All we ask is that you hand it out when you feel someone really deserves it for providing excellent service. It could be making your perfect coffee, making you feel especially welcome or maybe making you laugh, whatever great service means for you.
What do the baristas receive for being recognised by me -the customer?
Once you have recognised a barista their Area Manager will be informed and they will be rewarded at a special team meeting and given a ‘Recognise Our Star Baristas’ certificate. Afterwards a letter from Gerry Ford, our Chairman and Founder, will be sent to them. They will also be celebrated in our internal publication and special prizes will be handed out to our Stars! The most important thing however is that YOU have chosen to recognise them. That’s what this is all about.
