KENYA AA: OUR PREMIUM SINGLE ORIGIN

Kenya is famous for growing some of the most distinctive and high-quality coffees in the world.

This reputation comes from generations of dedicated farmers, ideal growing conditions, and traditional processing methods that bring out the best in each bean.

This particular coffee comes from the Kiambu region, nestled in Kenya’s Central Highlands. The area is known for producing coffees with a rich, fruity character and crisp acidity.

We’ve roasted this coffee to highlight its natural sweetness and brightness— expect notes of blackcurrant and maple syrup in every sip.

What is "AA"?

In Kenya, coffee beans are graded by size. “AA” is the top grade – it means the beans are larger, denser, and often produce a more refined and complex flavor. Only the best beans make it into this selection.

Processing:

How This Coffee Is Made

This coffee uses the traditional fully washed process, known for producing clean, bright, and flavorful cups.

1. SELECTIVE PICKING:

Only the ripest coffee cherries are hand-picked.

2. FERMENTATION:

Cherries are fermented for 24–36 hours under shade.

3. WASHING:

Beans are washed and sorted by weight.

4. DRYING:

The beans are then dried slowly in the sun on raised beds for 12 to 20 days.

Why Kiambu?

Kiambu has everything Arabica coffee needs to thrive:

  • It’s near the equator
  • The soil is rich and semi-volcanic
  • There’s plenty of sunshine
  • And high altitudes (up to 2,000 metres above sea level)

Cool nights in these highlands help the coffee cherries grow slowly. This slower ripening process allows the beans to develop complex flavors and balanced acidity – two things that make this coffee stand out.

Many farms in Kiambu are small and family-run. Farmers work with old, established coffee plant varieties and follow sustainable farming practices passed down through generations.
