Jo was born in North-East England but is now based in London. Her path to recognition was unconventional. After years honing her craft away from the spotlight, Iggy Pop discovered her music following the release of ‘Weathering the Storm’ and championed her on BBC Radio 6 Music, calling her "a superb and unimaginably good vocalist" - many listeners' first introduction to her long-deserved talent.
Since then, Jo has built one of contemporary British jazz's most respected catalogues, including Weathering The Storm, The Heart Wants, When Winter Turns To Spring (with pianist Paul Edis), and The Path Of A Tear, recorded at LA's Village Studios with Grammy-winning producer Larry Klein. Her work explores love, loss, hope and resilience with striking sincerity. When Winter Turns To Spring won Album of the Year at the 2023 Parliamentary Jazz Awards, while The Path Of A Tear earned widespread international acclaim.
Live performance is central to her artistry - she makes every listener feel she's singing directly to them so do try and get to see her live. In 2025, Gregory Porter personally selected her to support his thirteen-date UK tour, including four sold-out nights at the Royal Albert Hall. She's since performed at major venues including Ronnie Scott's, Dizzy's Club at Lincoln Center, SFJAZZ, and Birmingham Symphony Hall.
You will be able to hear her distinctive warm, smoky, deeply expressive voice every afternoon in all Caffe Nero’s at 15.30 for fifteen minutes.
