Caffè Nero records highest day of sales in ‘record’ Christmas
Caffè Nero has reported a “record” Christmas, with £1.5m in sales in one day the highest since the chain’s inception in 1997.
Like-for-like sales for the coffee chain were up 9% compared with the same five-week period last year, from 25 November to 30 December.
Overall sales for this period also increased 14% over the past year.
The chain shared sales of over £9m in a single week, recorded for two consecutive weeks.
Over two million customers were served in a single week “for the first time”, according to the chain, with its app driving 40% of total transactions.
Caffè Nero also sold 100,000 mince pies during the festive period, according to group CEO Gerry Ford.
“I’m very pleased with how we performed over the festive period,” he added. “Despite a challenging macro-economic climate and the impact of two very disruptive storms, we performed extremely well.
“The record number of customers who chose to visit our stores shows we are continuing to gain market share and the strength of our store teams and the impact our festive menu made a real difference.”
The Nero Group acquired two brands in 2024: 200 Degrees and FCB Coffee, bringing its total portfolio to five and number of stores across the UK to over 700.

The brand also saw a record number of customers served in a single week during the week of 9 December. More than two million customers were served in the UK in a single week for the first time, which was 3.3% customer growth on the same period the previous year, with more than 40% of all transactions coming via its app.

During the period, Caffè Nero registered its highest ever single day of sales at £1.5m, the equivalent to its first full year of trading back in 1997.
The family owned and operated coffee brand also saw a record number of customers served in a single week during the week commencing 9 December.
More than 2 million customers were served in the UK in a single week for the first time, which was 3.3% customer growth on the same period the previous year, with over 40% of all transactions coming via its App.

Caffè Nero has reported record Christmas trading in the UK, including its highest ever daily sales.

The London-based coffee chain said total sales for the five weeks ended 30 December 2024 were 14% higher than the previous year, with weekly sales surpassing £9m ($10.9m) for two consecutive weeks and record daily sales of £1.5m ($1.8m) on 30 November 2024.

Sales growth was driven by record transactions in the first week of December 2024, with more than two million customers served across Caffè Nero’s 627 UK stores. Over 40% of all transactions during the five-week period were made via the Nero app.

In December, Caffè Nero revealed plans to open new coffeehouses within Waitrose and John Lewis stores across the country.
This followed a double acquisition for owner, Nero Group, which brought London-based FCB Coffee and Nottingham-based coffee brand 200 Degrees under its umbrella towards the end of last year.
